THE USE OF ROLE-PLAYING TO ENHANCE CONFIDENCE IN ENGLISH PUBLIC SPEAKING

This research investigates the effectiveness of role-playing in enhancing students’ confidence in English public speaking. The study was conducted in Class 4A, English Education Program, FKIP Universitas PGRI Palembang, during the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year for the Public Speaking course. Data were collected through a questionnaire distributed to 27 students, focusing on confidence, engagement, and language performance. Results indicated that role-playing significantly improved students’ confidence, reduced anxiety, and enhanced their pronunciation, intonation, and body language during presentations. The study suggests that integrating role-playing activities into public speaking classes can create an engaging and effective learning environment.
